Underwater Video Diver (SDI)

This course is designed for certified divers who want to record smooth, engaging underwater video while maintaining full control of buoyancy and awareness. You’ll learn how to plan video-focused dives, manage camera movement and lighting, and avoid the common mistakes that lead to shaky footage or task overload.

Training is private or semi-private (1–2 students), allowing your instructor to tailor pacing, coaching, and techniques to your experience level and equipment. Successful completion earns a specialty certification focused on safe, controlled underwater videography.

1. Knowledge Development: Self-paced learning covering video equipment basics, camera movement, lighting concepts, task loading, and dive planning. Most students complete this over several short sessions.
2. Instructor Review & Planning: A focused session to review your camera setup, dive objectives, buoyancy approach, and site-specific considerations. Time required varies based on experience and equipment.
3. Open-Water Training Dives: One or more coached dives emphasizing controlled movement, steady filming, buoyancy, and environmental awareness. Typically completed over 1–2 days depending on conditions and pacing.

Required personal scuba gear:

• Mask, snorkel, fins
• BCD, regulator, computer
• Exposure protection appropriate to conditions (wetsuit or skins as needed)
• Underwater video camera system

If you don’t have gear or are unsure what setup works best, we’ll help you select properly fitting and practical equipment before training.

• Prerequisites: Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent)
• Water skills expectations: Comfort with buoyancy control, basic navigation, and maintaining awareness while handling additional equipment
• Medical: Completion of a medical questionnaire is required; physician sign-off is needed if indicated before in-water training

• What type of camera can I use? Any underwater-capable video camera is acceptable; we tailor instruction to your system.

• Where are the dives conducted? At sites selected for safe conditions and effective learning; logistics vary by location.
• What if conditions change? Training is rescheduled when conditions aren’t appropriate—safety comes first.
