Overview

This course is for certified divers who want to explore wrecks with disciplined planning, precise buoyancy, and clear awareness of hazards. You’ll learn how to assess wreck conditions, navigate safely around structures, and manage common risks such as entanglement, sharp edges, and limited visibility.

Training is private or semi-private (1–2 students), allowing focused coaching and deliberate pacing around real wreck environments. Successful completion earns a specialty certification focused on safe, non-penetration wreck diving techniques.

What You’ll Learn
  • How to plan wreck dives with conservative limits and clear objectives
  • Identifying common wreck hazards and how to avoid them
  • Buoyancy, trim, and propulsion techniques near structures
  • Navigation strategies around large, complex wreck sites
  • Use of lines, reels, and reference points where appropriate
  • Situational awareness in reduced visibility and confined spaces around wrecks
  • Gas management and ascent planning specific to wreck environments
  • Responsible wreck diving practices that protect the site and marine life
Why This Matters
  • Reduces risk from entanglement, sharp structures, and disorientation
  • Builds calm control when diving around complex overhead structures
  • Improves buoyancy and awareness in close-proximity environments
  • Strengthens planning and decision-making before and during dives
  • Leads to safer, more controlled wreck exploration
Course Structure
  1. Knowledge Development: Self-paced academics covering wreck hazards, planning, navigation, emergency considerations, and responsible practices. Most students complete this over several short sessions.
  2. Instructor Planning & Briefing: Review of wreck site layout, dive objectives, gas planning, entry/exit procedures, and environmental conditions. Timing varies by site and experience level.
  3. Open-Water Training Dives: Coached dives focused on buoyancy control, navigation, hazard avoidance, and safe ascent procedures. Typically completed over 1–2 days depending on conditions.
